Approach language learning like working out! By: @liveyourdream_education
#TipTuesdays this week is from our great friend Stephen @liveyourdream_education Based in Brazil, Stephen runs a thriving international ESL (English as a second language) platform, language learning app and teacher training program. He has been a regular at our events since our first ever language exchange in Dublin in 2012!
Tip: You should approach learning a language like working out. How much do you think your muscles will grow working out twice a week compared to working out everyday? The same goes with learning a language if you only study twice a week your progress is much slower than studying everyday. You also don’t start lifting 200 kilos on your first day in the gym the same with learning a language. Don’t try studying 2 hours everyday straight off the bat as it will be impossible to maintain. The key is consistency and discipline so start with a reasonable time that you can slowly build up and fix in your routine. 15-20 minutes everyday is perfect to start and the more disciplined you become the more time you can add on. And most importantly people always ask do you believe I can learn a language? We always answer with the same question – Do YOU believe you can learn language?
